Bartolomeu Dias reached Aguada de Sao Bras on 3 February 1488

The Portuguese explorer Bartolomeu Dias sailed around the southernmost tip of Africa in 1488. He lands in Aguada de São Brás (today Mossel Bay) after rounding the Cape of Good Hope. H was the first known European to travel so far south.
